New Zealand vs India, 4th T20I: Glenn Phillips' 107 Powers New Zealand to 259
Updated: 31 October 2026 · Author: Cricket Match Scorecard Editorial
With the series already gone, New Zealand hit back in emphatic style at Eden Park, Auckland, on 30 October 2026. They made 259/7 and then shut India out of the game, winning by 87 runs to make it 3-1 going into the final match.
Phillips and Bracewell take over
India chose to bowl once more, and at first it seemed to be working. Tim Seifert went early, and although Finn Allen's 31 and Daryl Mitchell's 24 were quick, New Zealand were 112/4 in the 11th over.
What followed was brutal. Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell added 115 for the fifth wicket in just 40 balls. Phillips ended with 107 from 49, hitting six fours and 10 sixes, while Bracewell's 65 from 25 included six sixes. The total reached 259, and only Mayank Yadav's three wickets gave India's attack any comfort.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's four overs cost 64. Mayank's three wickets also came at a cost, with 48 conceded, but in a match of this scale he was India's best performer with the ball.
India's chase falls apart early
To chase 260, India needed a strong start and got the opposite. Jacob Duffy removed both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in the opening over, leaving India 4/2. Abhishek Sharma made a quick 27 from 15 and Shreyas Iyer 22 from 11, but both were out before the powerplay had finished, and India never recovered.
India slipped to 121/8, and from there it was only a question of the margin. Tilak Varma's 35 from 35 and Naman Dhir's 28 from 13 at least carried the score past 150. Prince Yadav's 18 from 17 and Mayank Yadav's 3 from 4 carried them to the end of the 20 overs at 172/9.
Duffy's remarkable figures
While the batting took the headlines, Duffy's figures of 4/23 stand out. In a match with 431 runs, he conceded just 5.75 runs per over. No other bowler on either side came near that level of control apart from Mitchell Santner, who took 2/24. Compare that with Duffy's two overs for 44 in Wellington three days earlier, and you can see how quickly T20 fortunes change.
What it means
Phillips took player of the match. With 276 runs across the series so far, he has been the series' leading scorer, and the result gave New Zealand something to carry into the final game.
