South Western Districts vs Titans: Maloka Seals a Super Eight Upset in Oudtshoorn
Updated: 31 October 2026 · Author: Cricket Match Scorecard Editorial
Titans came into the Super Eight stage as winners of Pool B with the best net run rate in the competition. On 29 October 2026 at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn, South Western Districts beat them by three wickets, with nine balls to spare, in a chase that nearly went wrong.
Pretorius starts, Rhode applies the brakes
Titans chose to bat, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius gave them a fast start, making 45 from 20 balls with three sixes. After he went, the innings stalled. Regan Rhode took three wickets for just 17 runs in his four overs, the outstanding spell of the match, and Titans lost their way.
Dewald Brevis fell for 5 and Leus du Plooy made 11 from 14 balls. Titans slid to 95/6 in the 13th over, before Dayyaan Galiem (33 not out from 21) and Duan Jansen (27 not out from 23) added 62 in an unbroken stand to bring them to 157/6.
Andile Phehlukwayo had a difficult day with 44 runs conceded from his four overs. Leo Sadler was much tighter, with one wicket for 19.
A strong start for South Western Districts
Janneman Malan and Yaseen Vallie gave the chase ideal foundations with an opening stand of 74. Malan made 43 from 38 and Vallie 28 from 24. Both were out at almost the same point, however, and that brought Titans back into the game.
Wickets kept falling, and a run out of Leo Sadler without facing a ball did not help. South Western Districts went from 76/2 to 143/7. Dayyaan Galiem, who had already made runs for Titans, took two wickets for 16 in three overs.
Maloka's calm finish
Modise Maloka's innings was the key. Having come in at number three, he watched wickets fall at the other end while making 47 not out from 27 balls, including five sixes. With Zack Momberg making 5 not out from 4 balls at the end, the pair took the side to 158/7 in 18.3 overs.
Titans' bowling had some bright spots: Jansen took two wickets and Tabraiz Shamsi conceded only 28 from four overs. But they conceded 12 extras in a low-scoring game, and that gave the chasing side some breathing room.
