India vs West Indies, 4th T20I: Shai Hope's 102 Levels the Series

Updated: 31 October 2026 · Author: Cricket Match Scorecard Editorial

West Indies levelled the series at 2-2 in Hyderabad on 14 October 2026, beating India by 24 runs in a match that produced 470 runs. Shai Hope's unbeaten century built the platform, and Keemo Paul's five wickets ended a strong Indian reply.

Hope carries his bat

India chose to bowl at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, and Shai Hope batted through the entire 20 overs for 102 not out from 50 balls. He hit only four fours, but nine sixes. He had valuable support from Shimron Hetmyer, who hit 33 from 12, and Sherfane Rutherford, who finished 49 not out from 26.

India took just three wickets, and none of their main bowlers conceded fewer than nine an over. Mayank Yadav and Arshdeep Singh each conceded 52 from their four overs, and West Indies reached 247/3.

India also gave away 18 extras in the innings, 13 of them wides. In a match that ended with a 24-run gap, that is a large share of the eventual margin.

India go hard but fall short

India were always going to need a fast start. Sanju Samson provided it with 56 from 23 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes, and the score raced to 60 before he fell. Ishan Kishan followed soon after for a quick 6.

Tilak Varma's 43 from 25 and Nitish Kumar Reddy's 41 from 20 kept India on course for much of the chase. When Tilak fell at 200 at the end of the 17th over, they needed 48 from 18 balls, which is hard but not impossible in this kind of match.

Paul's five-wicket haul

Keemo Paul decided the contest. He took out Samson and Kishan early, and then returned to remove Reddy, Axar Patel and Prince Yadav in a late burst. India lost their last five wickets for 23 runs and were all out for 223 in 19.3 overs. His final figures were 5/41 from his four overs, while Gudakesh Motie added 2/13 from just two overs of spin.

Paul's return is a clear example of how wickets can change a chase even if the bowler is not especially economical. At 10.25 an over, his figures would look ordinary without the wickets beside them.

What it means

Hope was named player of the match, and the series stood at 2-2 after four games. For India, the takeaway may be how large a total the opposition can reach when India choose to bowl first, something that came up again on the tour of New Zealand shortly after.
