India vs West Indies, 3rd T20I: Arshdeep Singh Helps India Defend 223 in Indore
Updated: 31 October 2026 · Author: Cricket Match Scorecard Editorial
India defended 223 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on 11 October 2026, beating West Indies by 14 runs. The match also shows that good bowling can be hard to see in the economy column, because 3/44 was enough to win player of the match.
India bat through the 20 overs
West Indies chose to bowl first. Abhishek Sharma set the tone with 69 from 30, hitting six fours and five sixes, while Ishan Kishan's 37 from 18 included six fours. India were 124/4 before the 10th over was out, a huge total in view.
Wickets kept falling, though. Tilak Varma's 28 and useful late contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel kept the score moving, and India used up all of their batters to reach exactly 223, with the 10th wicket falling on the last ball of the innings. Prince Yadav's 13 not out from six late on was a useful bonus from a bowler.
Roston Chase was the pick of the West Indies attack, taking two wickets while conceding 38, and Shamar Springer took two wickets too, though he went for 50.
The West Indies reply
Shai Hope fell early for 5, bowled by Arshdeep, but Kamil Pooran (42 from 27) and Shimron Hetmyer (43 from 26) got the chase moving. The key period came in the middle. Naman Dhir took both of those wickets, and Rovman Powell also went cheaply, so West Indies had lost three important batters by the time they reached 105.
Sherfane Rutherford's 32 from 20 kept them in touch, until Arshdeep came back and removed him and Keemo Paul at a critical time. Shamar Springer's unbeaten 35 from 11 balls, including four sixes, made the ending close without ever quite getting there. West Indies finished on 209/7.
Why Arshdeep was the difference
Arshdeep's figures of 3/44 look expensive on their own, with an economy of 11.00. But the wickets he took were Hope at the top and Rutherford and Paul late on, removing the set batter and a dangerous hitter just as the chase needed to accelerate. He also made a handy 11 with the bat. It is a useful reminder to judge bowling figures by the match they came from, rather than in isolation.
What it means
The win put India 2-1 up in the series, with West Indies responding in Hyderabad three days later. Read our fourth T20I report to see how they did it.
